Tire Pressure Monitoring

November 30, 2012

Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) have had an unexpected consequence; it has made the need for a spare tire practically nonexistent. However, the car companies answer to eliminating the spare tire was the advent of the run-flat tire. But the improvement in call in emergency roadside assistance and proliferation of cell phones coupled with TPMS has obviated the need for spare tires.

In fact, most newbie drivers have no idea of how to change a tire or even to operate a tire jack. For these reasons the car companies are no longer offering spare tires not even space-saver spare tires on their new cars. BMW started this trend by eliminating the spare tire and instead equipping their cars with a can of fix-a-flat and portable air compressor.
